The Frequency of Things
Project Type
Data Visualisation, Web and Mobile Design
The Frequency of Things is an interactive guide to the electromagnetic spectrum, mapping the scientific discoveries and human accidents behind the inventions that turned raw energy into everyday technology.
A visual journey through the spectrum, where everything is defined by its vibration. From the slow, long waves of the Radio to the high-energy pulse of X-rays, the interface allows users to "tune in" to the history of ten transformative inventions.
It explores the tension between complex physics and the simple, often accidental moments of human genius.

Overview
Driven by a natural curiosity and a self-proclaimed obsession with Wikipedia, I’ve always been fascinated by how information is layered and connected. This project bridges the gap between scientific data and human storytelling by exploring the Electromagnetic Spectrum. I aimed to transform a complex physical phenomenon into an engaging interactive experience, blending the physics of frequencies with the history of the inventions they power.

The Concept
Taking inspiration from the traditional scientific spectrum, I maintained its vibrant color coding and technical details while adding a narrative layer. The project allows users to dive deep into each frequency, not just seeing the wave, but discovering the story behind the device.

Multi-Platform Experience
To ensure accessibility across different contexts,
I developed two identical versions of the guide:
a comprehensive Desktop experience for deep research and a streamlined Mobile version for on-the-go exploration.
